Green School Foundation Hosts Successful IGNITE 2024 Gala, Celebrating Art and Sustainability in Bali
The Green School Foundation successfully hosted its annual fundraising gala, IGNITE 2024, at Puri Agung Kerambitan, Tabanan (21/9). The gala's theme, "The Heritage of Royal Balinese Kingdom," showcased the beauty of Balinese culture through traditional dance, music, and art performances. The event featured collaborations with renowned local artists and cultural groups, including Sekaa Teruna Udyana and Sanggar Pancer Langiit. Furthermore, the Gala was a resounding success, captivating attendees with its cultural performances, delicious cuisine, and inspiring atmosphere. Guests were treated to a royal dinner experience, a fashion show featuring Balinese textiles, and a thrilling auction featuring unique items donated by local artists and businesses.
“The Green School Foundation was founded to make an impact on education for local students in Bali and Indonesia. Sustainability learning should become a vital component of education for everyone. “One of the challenges is, of course, we want to create as much impact as possible and do it quickly because we want to reach as many students aspossible. But to do that, we need the support of others,” stated by Kania Maniasa, Executive Director of the Green School Foundation.
The IGNITE Fundraising Gala served as a gathering and networking platform for importantfigures, such as public figures, artists, environmental activists, philanthropists, andentrepreneurs who are committed to creating a positive impact in Bali. The funds raised at the event will be utilized to support Green School Foundation’s programs focused on environmental conservation, young farmer regeneration, and sustainability education. This is the Green School Foundation's commitment and mission to leverage the power of education and community collaboration to raise awareness and responsibility for environmental sustainability for future generations.
“We focus on how we can regenerate this island by empowering local students, Indonesian students, to become the next generation of farmers. By helping these students become future farmers, we are not only changing their lives, but also changing the lives of their families, their communities, and the villages around them,” added Kania Maniasa, Executive Director of the Green School Foundation.
The event began with a cocktail reception featuring canapés and drinks from Bali's renowned restaurant, Syrco BASÈ. During the reception, guests were also entertained by an orchestral performance led by I Gusti Putu Sudarta, a prominent artist and lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Denpasar. In addition, the event was also graced by the presence of the 9th generation of the King of Puri Agung Kerambitan, Tabanan, Anak Agung Ngurah Indra Bangsawan. As the host, he warmly welcomed the guests.
The IGNITE Fundraising Gala also offered a special royal dinner experience, a collaboration with Nusantara by Locavore and LocavoreNXT, one of Ubud's leading restaurants that has been recognized for its commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Each dish served was a blend of authentic Nusantara flavors, specially packaged to preserve the authenticity and richness of Bali. Guests were invited to enjoy a dinner that not only delighted their palates but also transported them back to the grandeur of the Balinese royal atmosphere of the past.
The evening was further enlivened by a traditional-themed fashion show showcasing thebeauty and richness of Balinese heritage fabrics. This event collaborated with the Indira Laksmi Bali fashion house, a renowned stylist presenting designs that highlighted old-style Balinese clothing. Supported by ikat woven fabrics sponsored by Pertenunan Setia Cap Cili, the oldest weaving gallery and studio in Gianyar, Bali. Pertenunan Setia Cap Cili is known for the quality of its fabrics and its consistency in producing a heritage of woven textiles with high-quality materials and skilled craftsmen for decades. Pertenunan Setia Cap Cili is also known for its important role in empowering the community, especially women in local communities.
The highlight of the event was a series of exclusive live auction items that captivated guests with a variety of offerings. The auctioned items included Balinese traditional art and handicrafts, hotel stays and unique Balinese curated experiences. The live auction segment was a whirlwind of excitement, with 15 items sold in record time. Additionally, our online silent auction was a huge success as well, with 12 other items being sold. These auctions items were the result of donations and collaborations with various partners including artists, companies, resorts, restaurants, and cultural centers in Bali.
The IGNITE Fundraising Gala not only displayed the luxury and cultural beauty of Bali but also demonstrated the Green School Foundation's commitment to a sustainable future for Bali. In its sixth year, IGNITE remains focused on its mission of raising funds to support sustainability education and empowering young people, especially young Balinese farmers. The funds raised will be allocated for educational scholarships for children of farmers and to support local environmental school projects. IGNITE contributes directly to education while preserving Bali's agricultural heritage for a more sustainable future.
